Valve Noise

We just put on
our ARB permalock rocker stud nuts. These units are about 1/8 longer,
have threads clear down to the bottom, thicker walled, hardened
steel. The set screws go deeper into the sleeve. They give a more
positive fasten. They seemed to take care of the valve loosening
problem we are having.

stem sleeves??

Rich was doing
a few first start ups. He noted there was a pinging noise and
that it probably needed a valve adjustment. I took the right
valve cover off and found a little steel sleeve rolling out of the
valve cover. Number 4 inboard valve rocker was very loose, it
looked like that sleeve fits right on the end of the valve stem and
goes into a ridge of the rocker. There were some cuts made in the
spring retainer from rocker ridges beating against retainer.
I wonder if
anyone put Roller Rockers on their engines. I suppose you could
eliminate these small sleeves if you did.
This engine
only had about 15 min of run time. Makes me think if RW even
adjusted the valves before they dyno tested the engine before
programming the Fadec computers.
What do you think?

Michael,
I found the article.
It was published in the September, 1996 Rotorheads
Magazine and
written by Eric Cymbaliuk. I have scanned the article and have
attached it as
jpg files (2 Pages). See "Builder's Corner" article.

Adams Valve stem sleeves??
Michael,
I have not
done it myself, but I know that a lot of people have put Roller
Rockers on
their engines. I have an article around here somewhere about a
guy that was
selling these as a kit for the Rotorway Engines. I will try to
find the
article and his name and address.

Rockers /Locking devices

We are finding
it very difficult to maintain proper valve lash settings. On
our first go around, the engine was making some clicking noise--ended
up being a lash cap came off --rocker got very loose from the factory
at about 15 min run time. Then we put it back on and adjusted
the valves. A few minutes later another clicking noise --the
pushrod came out of the rocker.
I wonder if
anyone put Roller Rockers on their engines. All the GM engines
now come with Roller Rockers. I suppose you could eliminate
these small sleeves if you did and would probably make the adjustment
more stable, since there would not be that for/aft movement from the
oblong hole in the rocker.
Are there any
better locking devices for the studs as well, that anyone has
used effectively????
I do not
suppose anti-pump up hydraulic lifters could be used??

Michal, I put
roller rockers on this year. I have a friend
that has run
then for 2 yrs now. I let him be the guinea
pig. Mark
