I've been
snooping around and Scat Enterprises offers replacement
steel-on-steel
timing gears that fit the RW engine. Theirs,
p/n 20150S
($119), are straight-cut and adjustable. I am pursuing
additional
info from them.
Recent
posts describing the RW replacement gears have made me wonder
about
something. In the RW presentations, they make a pretty big
deal about
dyno-testing all their engines. With the "F" engines,
I suspect
the controllers also get loaded with operational data
("calibrated").
With mention of the replacement gears lacking
precision
in mounting, it seems to me that slotting the holes and/or
accepting
misaligned timing marks will also compromise the engine
performance
- at least invalidating the "cal".
When the RW
replacement gears are installed, is the valve timing
REALLY preserved?
Is their
camgear adjustable?

More info
on the Scat gearset. Thoughts??
OUR #
20150S GEAR SET AS PICTURED , THE SMALL
CRANK GEAR
HAS 3 KEYWAY GROOVES INSTEAD OF
THE 1 THE
FACTORY GEAR HAS, IN DOING SO WE
CHANGE THE
TIMING MARK ON THE SMALL GEAR
TO A MARK
180 DEGREES FROM THE KEYWAY GROOVE
THAT WILL
BE USED. OUR SMALL
GEAR HAS
MARKS AT
THE KEYWAY GROOVE TELLING YOU
WHICH
GROOVE TO USE ( IF YOU WANT THE 0, +1
OR -1
DEGREE ) YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN
MARK ON THE
CRANK GEAR TO USE TO MATCH
UP TO THE
CAM GEAR.
THE CAM
GEAR HAS 3 SETS OF BOLT HOLES,
IF YOU USE
THE CENTER BOLT HOLE WITH THE
0 DEGREE
KEYWAY GROOVE IT WOULD BE 0 DEGREES
IF YOU USE
THE RIGHT HAND BOLT HOLE ( -2 DEGREE )
WITH THE
0 DEGREE KEYWAY GROOVE IT WOULD
BE RETARDED
2 DEGREE'S. IF YOU USED THE + 2
DEGREE BOLT
HOLE ON THE CAM GEAR AND THE
+1 DEGREE
KEYWAY GROOVE ON THE CRANK GEAR
YOU WOULD
BE ADVANCED 3 DEGREE'S , OR
ANY
COMBINATION OF THE + OR - MARKINGS.
