Sun 'N Fun's

Fly-In
This year was no exception
For most of us,
It Absolutely Rocked !

This is a
photo of a Fox News helicopter which was one of the 3 news channel helicopters
that loomed
in the air like vultures over the crash site.
These folks really pushed the envelope hovering at 3300 and 3700 feet so they could cheat the system and get around the NOTAM issued for the area during the show. One news copter pilot even stated over the air to another one that he was hovering at 3700 feet because he knew his altimeter was off by several hundred feet, I guess the press doesn't fall under the same flight rules as the rest of us because within a couple days all 3 of them came back and hovered on the south side of the airport at the same levels on the same channel trying to get video of of an ultralight crash scene that took the life of one or more people when it crashed in the ultralight area.
They also showed disregard for the safety of other aircraft as well as the NOTAM by using our frequency for chit chat the whole time they were in the area even further endangering other aircraft.
We told them several times they were on our Chopper Town channel "123.025" and there smart reply was that it was the helicopter air to air frequency for central Florida and that they could use it for chat if they wanted to.

Bill Kichman's RotorWay ship from PA
|
|
|
These were
two other RotorWays
that flew in this year
that were
parked for a few days in the parking section on the other side of the field.
RotorWay
wasn't at the show this year.
The
Scuttlebutt is that they didn't have time for the show this year
because
they are in the process of moving locations again.
The Safari Helicopters
They had 3 great looking ships this year

Otto "Roger"
made his usual appearance and
like always he had a few new twists this year
This year he
had stunt plane in his show with some nut on top of it the two
aircraft passed back and forth in flight like it wasn't no big deal
An Absolutely amazing show!

A Military Cobra we got to play with that came in for static display we escorted across the field to it's landing spot.
Can you say RotorWash! lol
A
helicopter flight School that was there this year
which is one
of two located at the (LKL) Lakeland Airport now.
This is an Alouette II Jet Helicopter that was there this year with a real gem for a pilot.
We had Drama with him on two occasions this year. The 2nd time was while I was doing my time on the east gate of the runway. He was told by the tower controller to take off going north on the runway and make a right turn as he past the Long Ranger Helicopter.
This guy
purposely came right at me missing me with his rotor blades by no
less then 12 feet or so as he rocketed from the H in the middle of
the field in a north east heading at which point he made an abrupt
turn to the south west flying out over the top of the two parked RotorWays.
If you see
this ship out flying watch out" N318DB"
I'm
pretty sure what the "DB" stands for in the N number.
Be
advised he's not to bright!
I ran the N number on this ship and found that it belongs to a company in Delaware and used in a helicopter business in Florida which does alot of different things varying from flight training to helicopter tours.
You can bet you sweet A&* you won't see any of us giving anyone from that company any referrals.
Them other things that were there

============================================
FAA Notice Number: NOTC0834
These were items for folks that went to Sun 'n Fun this year
It happened April 17-23 in Lakeland, Florida (LAL). Here are a few essentials.
1. If you are planning on flying in to Lakeland between April 15 to 23, please read the Sun 'n Fun NOTAM available at http://www.faa.gov/NTAP/sunnfun.pdf
2. After reading the NOTAM if you would like a free pocket-sized reference booklet for Lakeland Linder (LAL), surrounding airports and other useful flight information --just the right size for the cockpit-- contact Sun 'n Fun by e:mail at dlangley@sun-n-fun.org . Ask for the Sun 'n Fun Quick Reference Book.
3. Check out FAA forums that will be taking place during Sun 'n Fun by going to http://faasafety.gov/ and under "Event Search," select Florida. The seminars start on April 17. To see the entire week calendar, open any one of these forums and click on the "SNF forum schedule" at the bottom of the page.
4. And don't forget to stop by and say hello to us-- members of the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam). We will be ready to meet and greet you in the exhibit area in the FAA hangar. We look forward to saying hi and answering any questions you may have on the web site. Hear first hand and face to face about the WINGS-Pilot Proficiency Program coming soon to FAASafety.gov .
Couldn't make it to Sun 'n Fun this year!
You can still see the FAA Forums live on your computer. Just go to FAASafety.gov and click on the box on the right side of the screen that says "Click Here to View Safety Seminars Live" Test it at any time. We have pre-recorded video on the site.
