Paint & Metal Preparation

All these decisions to make lol.

To Powdercoat or Paint was something we pondered for a long time. We read everything on the web there was on the subject of powder coating and in the end decided it was taboo. Three things we ran across turned us against it.

The 1st was you can't touch it up and will always be able to see the blemish like a paint run.

The 2nd was NHRA has banned it on drag car frames because it allows cracks to hide underneath the coating. If we get a crack we surely want every advantage of seeing it possible.

The 3rd thing was that it doesn't actually adhere to the metal, it more or less envelopes it. That was hard to swallow because we have some power coated items and have never seen it peel off and even if you tried you can't get under it, at least on the items we fooled with.

Anyhow 3 strikes and your out is our motto so it was off to the paint store for us. We chose to use PPG products and ended up with a tough durable good looking finish. It's easy to spot in and shines up great right out of the gun.

If you'd like to talk to some folks that sell this stuff and know what they're talking about give these folks a call, they will be happy to talk to you, not to mention sell you some paint.
