This is a listing of all the RotorWay owners we know of.
Some listings are from the person and some listings we got from sources such as the Fly In's, RotorWay Fun MSN site, Kitplanes, and such, so some of the information may or may not be correct.
This is something that would have really helped us when we were looking at buying our RotorWay. It sure would have been nice to have someone closer than Phoenix or some other far away place to go be ask questions and get to see the machine up close and personal. We inquired with RotorWay and they said they didn't know of any in our state or the states that surround Tennessee (and that's a bunch) but after going to Homers Fly-In we met more than a few owners (3 of them less than 40 miles away) that have been into RotorWays for over 20 years I think they said. Well we were kind of put out by the answer we got from RotorWay and you know they would have had to know of old customers like that.
It made us think maybe RotorWay had something to hide
and kept us hunting information for another year until we talked to enough people to and figure it out for ourselves. We did run into some folks that weren't too happy with their RotorWay and we still do. We run into alot more that are very pleased and have had more than one ship and that has got to say something for RotorWay.
We'd like to have Owners send us their information along with their favorite picture of there ship with them in it if possible.

problems with ship. The first thing I did was send the
secondary shaft to John Spurling via Terry Eberhart. Second thing I
did was get Mark Peterson to come down to my hangar for 5 days and
completely go over ship and replace the secondary drive. Mark
gave me 1 hour of training and I have been flying it ever sence. I am
scheduled to go to Phoenix for transition training in March, 2005.

Spent almost all of my available time for a year and half. At
the time I knew absolutely no one with a Rotorway (or any other kind
of helicopter for that matter), so the only help I had was Tom Smith
and I respect him tremendously to this day. My kit was one of
the last "standard kits" which meant that I had to build my
tail boom, blade doublers etc. Also there was no wiring harness
with that kit. It came with a whole lot of wire and connectors
to make your own. I also had to do a lot of my own welding.

Received kit June 25, 2001 and stated work immediately. First hover
was on Dec. 8, 2001. Didn't get airworthiness until Feb 2002 because
of flight test area problems. Have flown 241WC 190 hrs. since
Feb. 2002. I own and operate a small helicopter flight school in New
Hampshire with two R-22 helicopters and I really prefer the 162F to
the Robinson. I think the Robinson is probably a little easier to fly
because of the throttle governor and not having to move a ballast
weight. I am also a A&P/IA and do all the maintenance on the
R-22's and find the amount of work to maintain the 162F or R-22 about
the same. The 162F fuel burn averages 6-7 gph @ 105 mph, have had it
up to 130 mph @ full throttle. I consider the 162F to have a little
smoother ride than the R-22.

I began work on my kit in June of 1998. Being my first endevor
in aviation, I took what seemed to be an extreme amount of time
double checking every aspect of the construction. Construction
was pretty much completed by January 2002. I then disassembled
it for painting, reassembled it, and completed final rigging. I
was able to finally get it inspected in September 2002. After
14 hours of hovering to build my confidence about her proper
assembly, I finally made my first flight at altitude with her on
November 17, 2002. Everything is performing great! I am
currently building a custom 40' tri-axle trailer (complete with
living quarters) to travel with the ship to fly-ins and on vacation.

Comments: I have just ordered my rotorway, pick-up in April.
I have been to the factory twice and have been impressed so far. I
plan on picking up the boxes my self in Chandler to save some $$$ on

"I
purchased a 30', tandem, helicopter trailer about 3 months ago and
would gladly loan it to any Rotorway owner in the area for little, if
any, money. I tow it (with my helicopter) behind a Ford Ranger pickup.
It has a pair
of 1500 lbs axles which gives a very soft ride. One of the
axles has electric brakes and there are a pair of ramps plus an
electric winch. I do not have a support for the tail
section yet but hope to build one this winter.
I'm in North
Carolina but, if anyone in the Southeast US, needs a trailer to move
his/her helicopter on, I'd love to talk to them. Otherwise, it
will be parked most of its life."
