Oil System
We didn't have any trouble here at all.
We just did everything according to the book and everything that was supposed to happen did. Before we started the engine we turned it over until it began to show oil pressure which took no time at all, less then 30 seconds at best.
There are pros and cons of what type of oil to use as to go with synthetic or good old normal oil. Most of the literature I've read says not to run synthetics for the first five hours or so to allow the rings to seat and such and it makes sense to me. The only thing I question here is how much oil really drains out of the engine when you do an oil change. Mixing two different types of oil isn't good at all.
There is a nifty little quick drain plug you can install instead of the plug RotorWay supplied in the kit, it costs about $50 and is available from Aircraft Spruce and such places. It opens with about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn and has a nipple to place a hose on to alleviate the mess associated with this task. We didn't know which one to order and already had our tub installed when we remembered it so it'll have to wait until another time before we install it on our ship.
The first time we changed oil we had a hell of a time doing it in a way that avoided spilling oil all over the place. We had received the new plug but had to remove the old one to install it. We finally got it and let me tell you it wasn't pretty lol. You can find a picture of the fitting installed in the tank in the Add Ons and Mods section.
