Landing Light
Ahhh ! another seek and destroy mission. Thats just about what happens when you head out on this little venture.
We searched our picture files and the net and couldn't find a thing we liked so we just went to our local auto parts store and bought a common automobile head light. Mounting it wasn't anything of a big deal and the wiring and power relay was already in our plans when we wired the rest of the ship so that wasn't a big deal either.
The problem with this setup is you can't have both fields of view meaning forward and downward.
A. On the ground hovering you need to see pretty much straight ahead.
B. In the air looking down you need to see down about 45 degrees or more.
The best light would be a remote controlled one with a mega beam both height and width wise. We couldn't come up with an idea that wasn't something of a major project in weight and work so we just opted for what you see here. One day in the future we plan on something alot better thats controlled with a remote on the collective.

Landing and Strobe Indicators Lights
After we began actually flying our ship we found out that
having a light shining down from under our ships from what I can tell isn't going to do much for us. When I aimed my landing light downward the tub blocks the view. The only way we could see is if we stuck our head out the door or momentarily nosed the ship over.
Later on down the road in training while flying Schweitzer helicopters I noticed they only have one flood light hanging down in between the rear skids. It lights up the ground extremely well and just has enough forward light while your hovering to enable us to keep from running into something. In the future I'm sure well end up going with something like them.
