Homer's Fly-In
July, 2001
This year Brandy and I got there early.
It was the 2nd leg of the 5 Fly Ins we did this year and it was 2nd to none. Donna couldn't come until Friday night after work and somehow made the 6 hour trip there in 4 hours lol, she had to be moving! We as always had a blast just more of it lol.
I got to ride with Kim in his ship on the poker run and while at times it was a little harry it was kewl as hell lol. Like the year before there were all kinds of ships there and several other types of helicopters.
The Safari gang was there strutting their stuff. Mark let me have a stab at hovering the Baby Bell he flew. It was alot tougher to do than my RotorWay was. Sitting in that bubble with a robo view of the world was great, it felt like I was riding on the front bumper of a car lol. I really liked the ship and it seemed to have plenty of power in all the maneuvers Mark did during the flight I took with him. Mark gave me my first experience of flying on the deck and torque turns lol. I almost needed to go to Wal-Mart for some new undies when it was over lol,,what a rush.
Donna, courtesy of John Spurling, got to have her very first ride in our ship.
John took her for some hovering and then it was off into the air and around the pattern a few times.
Donna says it was great to actually be up in the air in our ship after working on it and watching it from the ground all this time. It was a little windy that day and she wasn't used to the bumpy ride that it made so she didn't feel too comfortable staying up there for long tho lol.
Thanks again John, we really appreciate you!
Scott or Brett Newhart (I can't remember which one now) took me flying in our ship and I got my my first time experience at really flying on the deck even lower then when Mark took me in the Baby Bell lol. It felt like we were inches off the ground flying between the rows of corn following the contour or the land, it was quit an experience to say the least lol. The rule was if you could see over the corn you wern't low enough. I kept signing and saying that's low enough, that's low enough the whole time lol.
There was alot of fun and alot of information retrieved here in a very short time and this is a very brief summery of the meet and the events it entailed but I'm sure you can get the picture.
Homer's is one Fly In you dont want to miss.
