Chris, I
had experienced some of the same surging problems that you must be having.
I can only
assume that anybody with a 162 on Fadec equipped ship probably
also are
having surging. My brother and I took the time to cut one of the
two wires
on the temp censor and run a wire up to the overhead switch panel
to
disconnect the circuit during startup. The process did not take
very much
time and
have proven itself to us to be a complete success. There is no way
you could
mistakenly not reconnect the circut because the yellow error light
on your
dash will be glowing at you.

Brett

Brett, Very
Interesting! I never thought of that!
you didn't
say exactly what is startup like without the sensor on?
Any other
"side effects"?
Thanx,

I've only
started my engine a few times but it always holds steady at
about 1800
RPM immediately after starting.
How did you
guys zero in on the temp sensor having something to do with
the surging?

Chris,
After initial installation of the Ez start clutch we were
experiencing bad
surging
during start up. Sometimes the surging was so severe that when you
would begin
to engage the clutch the engine would immediately stall.
Engaging
the clutch takes small movements as you probably know and having the
engine
surging makes a smooth transition very difficult. Now that I can
break the
circuit the startups are as smooth as can be. Once the engine is
running
stable I just begin engaging the clutch as usual. After the clutch
is fully
engaged I just reach up and flip the toggle switch and reconnect the
circuit.
Then you will have to push the reset button on the fadec to
deactivate
the yellow error light. This problem seems to apply only to ships
with the ez start.
Apparently somehow the censor tells the fadec that the
engine is
cold and the fadec responds to this input. Because the is no load
on the
engine it begins to surge. The fix was a cinch. The ez
start was the
second
greatest improvement to our ship after the cog belt. Makes
those cold
morning
starts much easier. All I had to do was work out a little bug.
I am
not sure
how many ships are experiencing this problem. Have not heard to
much of the problem.
Lets face it, there are no two RotorWay's alike.
I talked to
John Spurling about the problem and he gave me the info on what
may help to
resolve the problem. However I do not know where he received
this info.
All I no is he was very correct.
