Engine Alignment

This is a bit of a puzzle at first.

A call to Tom Smith at RotorWay revealed a simple trick and we were off and running to the next step in no time at all.

First the ship must be level laterally and fore and aft.

Then you hang a plum bob from the upper engine mounts center. Be sure it's centered at the top or it will affect the result you get at the bottom. Next you see where the plum bob points to. That's the center of your rubber ring the engine sets in. The way you keep it there is by grinding off the outer edges of the ring on what ever side it needs to be done on. A belt sander works perfectly for doing this. This is an area where you want to take your time and do it right because it has a tremendous affect on the out come of everything associated with the drive train in the ship.

When you install the engine be sure to lube the ring with something but at the same time don't do it with anything that will cause the rubber to deteriorate or later on you'll be having trouble keeping things lined up.
