Decals, Placards and Markings
I'm not sure how all this works FAA wise
because in all our travels to the air shows we saw bunches of ship that hardly had anything marked so were kinda thinking were all at the mercy of the person who inspects our ship be it an FAA person or a DAR.

This was a ball to do lol.
We went to the engravers in town and didn't find what we wanted and even if we had, having them make them would have made us make many many trips back and forth to the store. What we ended up doing is buying one of those office label makers and several different types of tape for it.
In the end we spent over $200.00 but like all the other things we hadn't counted on it worked out. This labeling thing is supposed to be an FAA requirement as well as marking all the instruments Rotorway doesn't with proper ranges. We used type setters pin striping for that at about $12.00 for 3 rolls of green, yellow and red if I remember right. The little label maker is quite the gadget but wastes about 2/3rds more tape then you actually use, for example to get a 3/4" inch word it consumes about 3" inches of tape. One good thing is the tape seems to adhere to about any clean surface very well and so far none of them have peeled off of anything including the instrument and the overhead switch panels thats covered in vinyl.
For the larger lettering like the N number and such Donna and I have our own vinyl graffics letter/sign system left over from a another business I tried out once upon a time lol. Having this thing in house saved us major time and bucks making all the placards our local FAA wanted on our ship. We saved this stuff until last thinking it would be cake but even having our own equipment it still took us a couple of weeks to do all of it and just when we thought we were done another one to make up would pop us.

This is a
ships data plate that
is required by the FAA.
After it's
engraved this plate
must
be permanantly attached to the aircraft
by
rivets and not screws.
|
|
|
|
|
|
If you choose to mount your plate in this spot
make sure you don't place it to far to the rear like we did or you'll have a tough time with the top left rivet being to long.

Our FAA Registration Display / Map pocket
You might as well plan on making this item because you need it for papers that are supposed to be in plane site and your also going to need space for storing things like your check lists and charts
