Accessories, Add Ons & Mods

This is the stuff no one tells you about.

To date there isn't anything onboard our ship
we're not glad we did with the exception of the unplanned dollars and time we had to spend on them.

95% of the items here are a must have and you really don't have a choice.

There are a few items here you don't need and can easily get by without, depending on which items you install and of course your budget. You may be able to come up with a better or cheaper way but one way or another your going to end up needing most of them. A good example of this is the Infinity cyclic grips. You can get by with the factory Rotorway stock grips but why would you want to lol. Even after upgrading to them we found we still need one more switch on the grip to keep our hands on the cyclic instead of having to let go of something in order to turn something on or off. To help with that, we plan on adding friction controls one day, but until we do the grips are one option were very happy we went with.

There are a few things we plan on adding in the future that we came across since the initial building of the ship like, a
light/warning system for the ballast weight along with temp sensors for all the main bearings in the ship like Mark Wolf did on his ship. We also need to add a 12 Vdc power jack to run a 2nd GPS unit that we have that will show the roads below us.

Every optional item in Yellow isn't an option and you must have it
with the exception of an ELT, GPS and Nav Lights.

A Com Radio, Transponder, and Encoder are required to fly in Class, A,B, and C airspace.  Class A you don't have to worry about because if your up that high in your Rotorway your most likely on the way to heaven.  You can get by in Class D airspace without the Transponder and Encoder but you must have a Com unit.

You can get buy without an ELT Transmitter if you never crash and Nav lights as long as someone doesn't hit you.  Dusk is the worst time to fly and within your first 10 hours of forward flight you can bet you will be red lining right up until the sun goes down if not longer.

Common Sense Says

No one should be in the air without a Com Radio
nor should you be in the air without some sort of collision advoidence lights
so you might as well plan on it from the start.

Oh Yeah!

It's Kinda hard to fly a helicopter and do sign language so your going to most likely need some sort of an intercom so you can chat with your fly buddy. This feature is included with alot of different models of Com units so you may be able to save a few bucks with that.  The Downside to going that way is the units that come with that option usually have issues of very poor sound quality.
